On October 9, 2026, EPC Group’s TAR-8 standard for Microsoft 365 tenant AI readiness was featured on G2’s TechBlend — a Houston consultancy’s attempt to become the checklist chief information officers reach for before switching on Copilot.

The pitch identifies the failure enterprises keep rediscovering: AI rollouts fail less from bad prompts than from messy estates. A Copilot licence dropped into a Microsoft 365 tenant inherits the tenant’s permissions, and decades of overshared folders, orphaned sites and “everyone” links become, overnight, an AI that answers questions with documents the questioner was never meant to see. TAR-8 scores eight surfaces — identity and data through Teams, Power BI and CRM among them — which amounts to an admission that readiness is a property of the plumbing, not the model: who can see what, what is labelled, what is retained, and who is accountable when the assistant is confidently wrong in writing.

Governance frameworks are proliferating because the alternative is learning by incident. The first enterprise AI scandals will not be about hallucination; they will be about access — a salary file summarised for the wrong audience, a legal hold surfaced in a sales deck — and the CIOs who avoided them will be the ones who treated readiness as an audit completed before the announcement, not an apology drafted after it.

Checklists compete for a standard

TAR-8’s appearance on a marketplace platform is the tell of where this is going: readiness is becoming a product category, scored, benchmarked and sold. Whether this particular standard wins matters less than that one will. NewsWibe’s Business & Technology Desk will follow the frameworks enterprises adopt as AI governance hardens into procurement.

The unglamorous truth underneath the framework market: most tenants are not ready, and know it, and have budgeted the licence fees anyway. The checklist that tells a CIO the truth in October is worth more than the apology tour the following spring.
