Eco-warriors interrupted republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis as he spoke at a Fox News town hall in Iowa as protesters chanted “no oil money”.

The Governor of Florida was discussing a voter’s question about Republicans distancing themselves from abortion bans in the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Just as DeSantis said he is the only candidate who has accomplished restrictions on abortion, campaigners stood up and held a banner.

The group from environmental advocacy group Sunrise Movement, began chanting and briefly blocked the camera before being escorted out.

As the protesters were directed to leave, DeSantis said: “You live and you learn with these people, right?”

“That was a mistake. You guys didn’t get that one right.”

The green group said that two activists also “snuck in questions” during the town hall about fracking and green jobs after telling Fox they were undecided Republicans with questions about “the economy.”

Amalia Hochman, who asked a question, said in a statement: “Whether it’s DeSantis, Biden, or Trump we’re fed up with politicians who’d rather let people suffer and die than stand up to oil and gas millionaires.”

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

DeSantis will next face former UN ambassador Nikki Haley in the last Republican debate before the Iowa caucus next week.

Both candidates lag far behind former President Donald Trump, according to the latest polls.

Two polls released on Tuesday showed Haley cutting Trump’s lead in the second state due to pick its Republican candidate, New Hampshire, where a primary will be held on January, 23.

DeSantis is trailing in fourth place there, polling averages show, while he and Haley are essentially tied for second in Iowa.

Jimmy Centers, an Iowa-based Republican strategist unaffiliated with a campaign said: “The debate will be their last and best chance to tell Iowa caucus-goers why they deserve to be the alternative to former President Trump and why they should have a head-to-head shot at him.”

Trump will again skip the debate – the fifth of the nominating cycle.

But will hold a town hall on Fox News.
