The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians Women hammered the Sneh Rana-led Gujarat Giants and won by 55 runs in the 12th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, March 14.

Losing the toss and batting first, Mumbai Indians Women posted 162/8 on the board with the help of Harmanpreet Kaur’s incredible fifty and Yastika Bhatia, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr’s amazing contributions.

From Gujarat Giants, Ashleigh Gardner was the top performer as she bagged a three-wicket haul while Sneh Rana, Tanuja Kanwar and Kim Garth picked up one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Sophia Dunkley was cleaned up for a golden duck in the first over. Other than Harleen Deol no batter was able to get going and at the end of the 10th over they were at 55/5.

The wickets fell at regular intervals and Gujarat Giants were restricted to 107/9 in their 20 overs. From Mumbai Indians Women, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews took three wickets each while Amelia Kerr picked up two wickets and Issy Wong bagged one wicket.

Dominant Mumbai Indians Women won the match by 55 runs to register their 5th consecutive win in the WPL 2023 and become the first team to officially qualify for the WPL 2023 playoffs.

Mumbai Indians Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur once again bagged the Player of the Match award for her brilliant performance. During the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur credited the support personnel and her teammates for the success of the team in the tournament.

“Credit goes to all the support staff and team-mates. The way we have been playing, we want to continue. We are so positive and they always want to do well for the team. When we got this team, I was really happy, they were doing well for the country and now they will do the same for MI,” Harmanpreet Kaur said.

Harmanpreet Kaur further spoke about her batting in the match against Gujarat Giants.

“The positivity is giving all the results. When we played last game on this wicket, initially you are not going to get runs. Once you get settled you will get runs. That’s what I did today. Whatever which is giving results is what I’m doing. Sometimes you have to see the boundary dimensions as well. The leg-side is short and a medium-pacer was bowling and that’s why I went and the last-over anyway you need to go, but this was the longer boundary and I could not clear,” Harmanpreet Kaur said.
