Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered a resounding victory over Delhi Capitals (DC). PBKS won the match by 31 runs against all odds as DC had scored 65 runs in the power-play overs for the loss of no wickets while defending 168 runs. Earlier in the match it was Prabhsimran Singh who struck a turbulent ton and took PBKS’ score to 167-7. Prabhsimran Singh scored 103 runs in 65 balls and struck 10 fours and 6 sixes as the track was uneven.

PBKS’ spinners Rahul Chahar & Harpreet Brar spurned a web across DC’s batters. Harpreet Brar was the destroyer in chief who took 4 wickets and conceded only 30 runs in his 4-over spell. PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan was seen applying attacking tactics and made sure that there are no easy singles given to the batters.

David Warner would be utterly disappointed with the performance of the batting unit as apart from him, not a single batter scored 25 odd runs. Warner’s breezy half-century went into vain. DC fans would be wondering why the likes of Rovman Powell & Anrich Nortje haven’t played the majority of the games. Manish Pandey’s woes continued as even after being named as an impact player, he couldn’t create a case for himself.

PBKS would be pumped up with this win as not many gave them a chance after the onslaught by Warner & Salt in the power-play overs. PBKS now are placed at 6th position on the points table with 12 points from 12 matches and are in the race of the playoffs as wins in the last 2 matches would give them a strong chance. DC now are officially out of the race of the playoffs who have 8 points from 12 matches.

The wicket was slightly tough at the start- Prabhsimran Singh

During the post-match presentation, Prabhsimran Singh stated that the plan of the team was to take the game deep and pounce on the loose ball. Prabhsimran Singh thanked the management for giving him opportunities this season.

“We lost a few wickets at the top, so the plan was to take the game a little deep. I have been with the team for a long time and when you get back-to-back opportunities you gotta grab it. The wicket was slightly tough at the start and the plan was to build some partnership and then target a few bowlers,” he added.

“I also speak to senior players who keep telling me to make sure that I take the game deep and make it big when I get a start. Really thankful to the management for the opportunities,” he concluded.

“I thought to take time and pounce on the loose ball to convert. As I started the season, I wanted to make it a good season. Pitch was tough for batting but it was easier for the set batsman,” said Prabhsimran Singh

“Even in domestic cricket, this is how I celebrate. The celebration was saying thanks to the management. On this wicket, playing the pace bowlers was easy and the balls were in my slot. We were thinking about 170 and we got close to it,” he stated.
