Pakistan advanced to the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 with a 5-wicket win against Bangladesh in their last Super 12 match at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, November 6. After batting first, the team got off to a good start in the first 10 overs of the match but subsequently failed to capitalize.

From 73 for 2 with good batting depth, Bangladesh posted just 127/8, which was never going to trouble Pakistan, and this target was chased down comfortably with 11 balls to spare.

Shaheen Shah Afridi led Pakistan’s bowling attack and registered his career-best figures, taking 4 wickets for just 22 runs in his four overs quota. Shadab Khan took two wickets while giving away 31 runs in his four-over spell. Opening pair Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan opened up the innings relatively slowly, and Mohammad Haris (31) and Shan Masood (24) helped to chase down the target.

Open With Mohammad Haris To Use The Fielding Restrictions – Moin Khan

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan said that young batter Mohammad Haris should open with Mohammad Rizwan and skipper Babar Azam should bat at one down.

“I agree with Aquib that Babar Azam should drop himself down the order for the next two games. He can open if he wishes in the subcontinent. Open with Mohammad Haris if he wants to use the fielding restrictions but Babar should not open,” Moin Khan revealed on Geo Super.

During the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s openers had a combined strike rate of 85.5. It is currently only better than Zimbabwe’s 84.9. Mohammad Haris played fearless cricket and attacked from ball 1, scoring 59 runs in two innings at an impressive strike rate of 203.45.

After South Africa’s shocking loss to the Netherlands, Pakistan grabbed the thin chance to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals with both hands. In the semi-finals, the Babar Azam-led team will take on New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday, November 9.
