Former Australia captain Michael Clarke asked Cricket Australia to take an expeditious move regarding the future of Justin Langer with the national team.
Langer might not get an extension with the Australian national team as reports mention that Cricket Australia might not renew his contract.
Langer’s four years of contract with the Australian team will expire in June and Australia’s tour to Pakistan could be his last assignment as the head coach. Cricket Australia will meet this week and they might consider dumping the head coach.
Clarke, who was Langer’s teammate during their playing days for Australia, said both the parties must settle down with a quick decision between them.
“He has done such a good job. It’s not great for Lang and certainly not great for Cricket Australia. So hopefully whatever is going to go down, goes down ASAP,” Clarke told Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast.
“If Lang is going to resign, do it ASAP. If Cricket Australia is going to make him reapply for his job and he doesn’t want to do that so he quits, do that ASAP. If they are going to offer him a contract, let’s get this done. It’s horrible at the moment. We’ve just had an awesome summer, the T20 World Cup … And now we are reading this,” he added.
In his recent meeting with Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley and head of performance Ben Oliver, Langer was told that he might have to reapply for the position, something that Cricket Australia has denied.
According to a report by The Australian, there is talk of a fresh two-year contract, while Sydney Morning Herald reports that a short-term deal looks like Langer’s only hope of staying in the job.

According to a report by Foxsports.com.au, the head coach would reject a short-term contract should it only take him through to the 2023 Ashes.
Clarke blasted out at the Australian media for leaking out the conversation between Cricket Australia and Langer even before they come to a conclusion.
“This is splashed all over the media and there is inside gossip. You pretty much have exactly what happened in the meeting with Cricket Australia. It’s there for everyone to read. How does that happen? How can that not stay private? It is out of control. I don’t know what side it’s come from, how it’s got out or why it’s got out – I have a fair idea – either way, this is not helping anyone,” Clarke said.
Langer was appointed as the head coach of Australia after the infamous ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town.
