Lee Anderson slams Nike for 'woke' St George's Cross on new England kits
Press Releases

Nike is facing backlash after unveiling the new 2024 National Kits, with MPs accusing them of being “woke”.

The new kits will “celebrate football heroes of the past with a modern twist”, Nike said when they were announced.

But MPs have hit out at its decision to replace the red St George’s Cross on the collar with a multicoloured cross.

The vertical line remains red, but the horizontal line has been redesigned in navy blue, light blue and pink.

Nike said the change was a “playful update to unite and inspire”.

But Reform UK MP Lee Anderson told the Express: “The left have a nerve to ask me why I want my country back.

“This virtue signalling, namby-pamby, pearl-clutching woke nonsense must stop.

“Any more of this and I’ll be on the first flight to Rwanda.”

Conservative MP Brendan Clarke Smith saying that the new design “looks nothing like our flag”.

He said: “Maybe somebody in the design department misheard Three Lions and instead went for three lines on a shirt.

“Iโ€™m not sure what this is supposed to be, but it certainly looks nothing like our flag and Iโ€™m not sure it needs an โ€˜updateโ€™ either.

“That said, I doubt theyโ€™ll shift many at those sort of prices.”

Meanwhile, former Brexit Party MEP Christina Jordan said: “Thatโ€™s not a St Georgeโ€™s Flag, playful or otherwise. Totally uninspiring.”

The anti-Brexit Bruges Group added: โ€œIt is no longer the Cross of St. George. It unites and inspires no one.โ€

GB News has approached Nike for comment.
