Labour wants to take the UK back into the EU by stealth. Their immigration plan is proof, says David Morris MP
Press Releases

It’s been widely reported in the press that Labour claim erroneously to have a plan to stop illegal Immigration. Their proposals look a lot like Sir Keir’s grand plan is simply to make illegal migration legal by amalgamating the UK back into the EU by stealth by becoming an associate member of the EU giving away the Brexit vote.

It comes as no surprise, as both recent Labour leaders – along with many others in party – went on record countless times to say that we should stay in the EU and fought against Brexit.

Even EU officials have treated Labour’s proposals under Sir Keir Starmer with incredulity.

A report by the think-tank UK in a Changing Europe yesterday warned that the UK was “not a priority for the EU, which remains relatively happy” with the Brexit deal.

As such, a Labour Government would have to ‘”provide the EU with an incentive to restart negotiations over Brexit”. In plain English, give your billions to rejoin the EU.

Last week the EU mocked Labour’s ideas as “delusional”. Now, Sir Keir shamelessly tries to deceive the British public that he cares about illegal migration.

Planning to open UK borders and inviting more illegal immigrants to cross the English Channel is a strange way of showing seriousness on the matter.

Let’s take a look at Sir Keir’s voting record on this issue :

18 months ago Sir Keir forced all Labour MPs to vote against the Nationality and Borders Act which made tougher sentences for people smugglers. He now tries to convince us that these were on a par with terrorist. You don’t “treat people smugglers like terrorists” as he put it by voting against the increased detention powers & power to seize mobile phones in the Illegal Migration Act and demanding the closure of removal centres.

Whilst he’s been trying to undermine our border security, this Government has Passed laws laws against illegal Immigration and doubled the National Crime Agencies funding for organised immigration crime. This has boosted intelligence sharing & deployed more officers abroad and struck deals with Italy, Bulgaria & Turkey and most importantly reestablishing cooperation with France boarder forces.

Just last week, another group of vile people smugglers were locked up. Getting people on to boats, charging them thousands, and perilously launching them into the Channel from France is big business in the organised crime world and that’s the real problem.

This hard and important work of cracking down on these criminal gangs has helped reduce crossings by 20 per cent, when they’ve risen very sharply in Europe. That means implementing the Illegal Migration Act, which Labour have again voted against, and implementing the Rwanda partnership, which Labour would scrap with nothing but open boarders in its place.

Remember the recent Albania deal? It’s reduced crossings by 92 per cent by returning Albanian illegal migrants within as little as 48 hours. This shows that this Governments deterrence strategy works.

Labour shamelessly are now offering an alternative to the Illegal Migration Act to take hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants from the established safety of the EU was a solution? Labours ‘plan’ has already fallen apart. The truth is Labour won’t take the tough, but take necessary action to stop the boats. And they don’t respect the result of the Brexit Referendum.

Here in Morecambe, the national press ran stories when we had nearly 100 asylum seekers deposited here in short notice last new year.

I got this issue resolved within a few weeks as I struck a deal with the Home Office with the assistance of Robert Jenrick MP to relocate them to an area that could cope with their well-being as It put a tremendous set strain on all of our services.

Under Labours proposals this is confirmation that they propose to make this a regular occurrence stretching our services locally and nationally beyond the limit.
