Kemi Badenoch has called out the SNP, accusing the party of a lack of action over the Horizon Post Office scandal.

The Secretary of State for Business and Trade accused the Scottish National Party of being ‘too lazy’ to do the work.

It comes as First Minister Humza Yousaf accused the government of using Scottish Postmasters as a “political pawn.”

He added that the Government made the decision to extend Horizon legislation to every nation in the UK except Scotland.

The Scottish First Minister said: “I’m utterly furious about the fact that the UK Government has chosen to extend their legislation to every part of the United Kingdom except Scotland. The unfair treatment of Scottish subpostmasters and subpostmistresses is completely unacceptable.

“The fact of the matter is it is hard to think the UK Government is doing anything other than using our Scottish subpostmasters as a political pawn.

“That is outrageous and unacceptable and I will be writing to the Prime Minister in order to ask him to reverse that decision.”

In a post on social media, Yousaf, former Scottish Justice Secretary, added: “The UK Government’s decision to extend Horizon legislation to every nation in the UK except Scotland is scandalous. The fact the Tories are willing to use Scottish victims of the Royal Mail’s Horizon system as a political football is unforgivable. The PM must change course.”

However, Badenoch, MP for the Saffron Walden, was quick to point out that not only does Scotland have a seperate legal system, but that Yousaf confused Royal Mail and the Post Office.

She said: “Scotland has a different legal system to the rest of GB.

“The SNP want independence but are too lazy to do the work. They have powers to get justice for the postmasters.

“They should stop whining and get on with it! Mr Yousaf has also confused Royal Mail with the Post Office.”

The Inquiry into the Post Office

Later today, the Post Office Horizon IT enquiry continues with evidence from former Head of Legal at the Post Office Susan Crichton and former general counsel of Post Office Ltd Chris Aujard.

Earlier this week, the enquiry heard the Post Office changed how it described problems with the system based on a suggestion by the husband of former boss, Paula Vennells.

The inquiry into the scandal has heard that following advice from John Vennells, the Post Office stopped referring to “bugs”, and instead called them “anomalies and exceptions”.

Senior executives felt that this language was “less emotive” however a lawyer for the inquiry branded the move as “absolutely Orwellian”.

GB News has reached out to the SNP for comment.
