The 21-year-old India National Cricket Team left-handed opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal hit an amazing reverse sweep in his second T20I match against Rovman Powell-led West Indies National Cricket Team at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill on Saturday, August 12.

Jaiswal failed to perform well in his debut T20I match against West Indies and got out for 1. However, he made the most of his second outing in T20I cricket and smashed a spectacular half-century while opening the innings with Shubman Gill.

During his innings, the young batter played some outstanding shots, but the one that stood out was his reverse-sweep that went for a maximum. On the sixth ball of the 12th over, Akeal Hosein bowled a length ball on off-stump and Jaiswal nailed a reverse-sweep over sweeper cover for a 69m maximum.

I am happy to go out there and perform – Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal won the Player of the Match award for his batting masterclass. Speaking after winning the match for his side, he said that he is happy to contribute to the team’s success. Yashasvi Jaiswal elaborated:

“It’s not easy, I am happy to go out there and perform. I try to play how team needs. I try to score quickly and how many shots I can play in the powerplay. Reading the wicket, reading the situation, everything is important.”

“I have played a lot of ball against them (Holder and McCoy), helped me to pick them. It (partnership with Gill) was really amazing, he batted really well. I want to thank everyone coming here and supporting us. Thank you so much.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 84 runs off 51 balls, including 11 fours and 3 sixes. He became the youngest Indian opener to smash a fifty for the side in T20I cricket. He broke the record of Rohit Sharma, who hit a half-century as an opener in T20I cricket at the age of 22 years and 41 days.
