Channel 4 has come under fire after revealing its panel for the general election coverage.
It was announced former BBC journalist Emily Maitlis and Channel 4 news anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy will be heading the programme, which has sparked outrage and mocking over a “balance” row.
The corporation has been accused of left-wing bias following the announcement this week.
Alastair Campbell, Sir Tony Blair’s former spin doctor, will also be providing analysis for the broadcaster along with former Tory minister Rory Stewart, who was stripped of the whip by Boris Johnson.
Meanwhile, Cathy Newman will be presenting from the campaign HQs for the Conservatives and Labour and Clare Balding will be breaking down the data as it comes in.
Coverage will also include inserts from Gogglebox stars, who will be providing their take on the election campaign.

Guru-Murthy commented: “I’m so looking forward to joining this brilliant line-up of people to capture an exciting and historic night.
“We will have piercing analysis, sharp interviews and all those memorable moments as the results come in.
“I think this is going to be one of those rare election nights we remember for decades so I hope viewers will enjoy spending it with us.”

Maitlis added: “Delighted to be bringing The News Agents to the heart of Channel 4 on this important night – and to work with such an incredible cast of people. I cannot wait.”

Since the news, many have taken to social media to slam the decision, with one writing on X: “Doesn’t think the Channel 4 election coverage team are left wing. WTF?!”
Another fumed: “On what planet is this a balanced panel to discuss politics?”
“I know it’s Channel 4 but this is something else. 5 people who are openly left wing activists or Labour Party commentators and then the poor Clare Balding who will have to listen to them all night.”
Tweeting Ofcom, another penned: “So are you going to say that to channel 4 which is quite clearly anti Tory pro labour biased Alastair Campbell and his gang.”
“Channel 4 is very biased,” someone else added, while another wrote: “Channel 4 are biased in my view and doesn’t have a balanced debate as part of its daily broadcast.”

Another shared how the news was a demonstration of “massive left wingbias of Channel 4.”
Some defended the line-up though, with one writing: “Channel 4 are going to report the same results as the other broadcasters they can’t change the results, so how can it be biased?”
Speaking to The Telegraph, a Tory source also commented on the announcement.
“We welcome the return of prime-time comedy on Channel 4,” they stated.
Speaking to GB News, a spokesperson for Channel 4 commented: “We are delighted to bring together such a stellar line up of some of the country’s leading political presenters and commentators ensuring Channel 4 is going to be the go-to destination for first class analysis on Election Night.
“The programme will be duly impartial and like Channel 4’s coverage over numerous elections will comply with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.”
