Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf expressed displeasure over the hybrid model for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup, which was approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Zaka Ashraf is expected to become the next chairman of the apex cricket board of Pakistan.
Pakistan were scheduled to host the Asia Cup for the first time since 2008. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah made it clear that the Indian players wouldn’t travel to Pakistan. Najam Sethi proposed a hybrid model with Pakistan and Sri Lanka as co-hosts.

During a media interaction on Wednesday, Ashraf said that he “rejected” the hybrid model and added that Pakistan will host the whole tournament.
“The first point is that I had rejected the hybrid model (for Asia Cup) in the past itself – because I do not agree with it. The board of the Asian Cricket Council had decided that it should be held in Pakistan, then we should host it,” Ashraf said.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, an ACC board member said that the Asia Cup will be played in the hybrid model as it was approved by the board.
“The Asia Cup model has been accepted by ACC and there would be no change. Ashraf is free to say whatever he wants,” the ACC board member said.
Ashraf pointed out that Pakistan will play only against Nepal at home and that the team will play the remaining matches against India in Sri Lanka.
“All the main matches are happening outside (of Pakistan). (Teams like) Nepal and Bhutan are going to play in Pakistan – which is not fair for Pakistan,” Ashraf said.
“I do not know what the board has decided previously, I do not have the access to the information. I will check, whatever is doable in the shortest possible time, will do that for the betterment of Pakistan,” he added.
