Rinku Singh has been the most consistent performer for India since his debut back in August 2023. He has been consistently finishing games for India and has also played some of the best knocks in pressure situations. Legendary South African batter AB de Villiers reckons the 25-year-old Indian middle-order batter is a match-winner and his consistency is what a team needs to win the matches.
Rinku Singh has gathered a lot of acclaim for his role as a finisher in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and India. He shot to fame after he dispatched Yash Dayal for five sixes in the last over of a match between KKR and GT where 29 runs were needed to win. Since then, Rinku Singh has become a household name in the IPL and now he is showing his prowess in the national team too.
Rinku Singh has played 15 t20Is for India and in 11 innings he has scored 356 runs at an astonishing average of 89.00 and a strike rate of 176.24. In IPL he has scored 725 runs in 29 innings at an average of 36.25 and a strike rate of 142.16. He has been one of the most prolific batters in the shortest format and has proven his worth in the middle order.
Talking about Rinku on his YouTube channel, AB said, “Rinku is a fantastic player, a match-winner, and it is good to see him become consistent as well. You need to be a consistent player who is always trying to win games for your team.”
Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh stitched up a 190-run partnership for the fifth wicket in the third T20I between India and Afghanistan where Rinku played a brilliant innings scoring an unbeaten 69 off 39 balls. He smashed two fours and six sixes in his innings and duly revived the Indian innings after they were down to 22/4. Rohit Sharma on the other hand was the star of the match scoring 121* off 69 deliveries.
Rinku Singh remained not out in all three matches against Afghanistan in the series and also took two catches in the second super-over to help India win the game against Afghanistan. He will be playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024 and will hopefully produce some exciting cricket after raising his bar with his performances in the last few months.
The third T20I saw a double super over after the normal game and the first super over ended in a tie. India won the second super over to clinch the series against Afghanistan by 3-0. India has never lost a match against Afghanistan and they maintained their record. This was the last white-ball action for the Men in Blue ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They will now face England in a five-match Test series starting from January 25.
India will play the first Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Indian team has won 16 consecutive Test series at home after the 2-1 loss against England in 2012. It will be an interesting red-ball season for India before the start of the IPL in March.
